RC2009/2/60 - circa 1915

This tablet has been placed here to commemorate the acquisition by the City of Auckland of the Lindauer Collection of Paintings, which was presented to the Auckland Belgian Relief Committee by H.E.Partridge, Esq., and for which the sum of £10,000 was collected by subscription in the Auckland Province. With this amount the pictures were bought and presented to the City, the purchase money being given to the Belgian Fund, May 1915.

  1. Implies P. gave pictures to Belgian R. Com absolutely and that then the City bought them for £10,000
  2. Also omits credit due to P. for making the collection
  3. It is desirable to clearly indicate that their value consists in their representation of M. customs - not as works of art.
