A number of the portrait sitters' descendants agreed to be interviewed on film for this website. We acknowledge their generosity in giving their time and sharing knowledge about their tupuna. Ngahiraka Mason and Mere Lodge facilitated the interviews and developed the videos along with filmmaker, Dennis Gedye and photographer, John McIver. The interviews are conducted in te reo Māori, English, or both languages in some cases. They took place at various locations around Aotearoa New Zealand including descendant's own homes or marae, and in the research library at the Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki.
