Oct 18th 1905  Riapo Timoti Puhipi   Ahipara  My friends. My heart and my thoughts are full of praise and amazement at seeing these paintings of our Māori elders. Enough. They are saying, greetings to you, may the Lord give life to your work, that it may remain, to be viewed by the descendants of these people and future generations.
Noema 7. 1905  Te Miringa Kaata  Ohinemutu Rotorua  I will never cease to be amazed at the skill of this Pākehā, Lindauer, who painted these elders these women and children too. “Salutations”
Noema 7 1905  Roka H Hopere  Taupiri Waikato  Greetings to these people
Dec 28 1905  W H McCaul  Wanganui  A very fine collection of pictures and a valuable acquisition to Auckland.

Hanuere 6th 1906   Wiremu Tamaki Rewharewha  Mercer Waikato  I have arrived here. I have seen the paintings of the chiefs of Aotearoa and the South Island. I have much affection for them, it is as if they are here in person. I weep much for Tāwhiao Potatau Te Wherowhero, for his great deeds everywhere. My thanks to the expert who painted these pictures. May you live a long life.

To answer John Anstis'comment - Lindauer painted hundreds of works and this website is limited to those in public collections. Unfortunately these two portraits are not part of the holdings of art museums that have contributed so far.
